How to get there
Euskadi has excellent national and international connections by air, road and rail.
If you are travelling by plane, you can choose from three strategically located airports. Bilbao Airport is the main international gateway, with direct connections to numerous European cities. San Sebastián Airport offers national and international flights (mainly in season), while Vitoria-Gasteiz Airport is a very practical alternative for those starting their journey inland in Euskadi.
It is also possible to arrive comfortably by train or bus, with frequent connections from the main Spanish cities. Those who choose to travel by car will find an excellent network of roads and motorways that facilitates access to the territory, located about three and a half hours from Madrid and around five hours from Barcelona.
If you travel by car
Although public transport allows you to travel comfortably between the five destinations, if you decide to travel in your own vehicle, we recommend checking the different parking options before your visit. The tourist offices and the websites of each destination offer up-to-date information to help you choose the alternative that best suits your needs, whether due to its location, the length of your stay or the type of visit you are going to make.
Connections between the destinations
Exploring the five destinations is easy thanks to the short distances and Euskadi's excellent communications network. In just over an hour, you can go from the medieval streets of Vitoria-Gasteiz to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Bilbao or enjoy the beauty of the Gipuzkoan coast and its capital.
The three Basque capitals are perfectly connected both by road and by public transport. Bilbao and Donostia/San Sebastián are just over an hour apart, while Vitoria-Gasteiz is less than an hour from Bilbao and approximately an hour and a quarter from Donostia/San Sebastián.
If you want to discover the coastline, Zarautz is located just 20 minutes from Donostia/San Sebastián and about 30 minutes from Hondarribia-Irun, with frequent train and bus connections that make travel easy throughout the year.
To travel between destinations by public transport, you can check the timetables of companies such as Euskotren, La Unión, Pesa, Alsa and Ekialdebus. With the Barik, Mugi and BAT cards, you can access discounts on urban and interurban transport.
